The Little Red Helicopter Book Launch

The Little Red Helicopter is launched! I am a winner of the First Time Writers and Illustrators Publishing Initiative 2009! The Little Red HelicopterThis is one of the most important milestones of my life. It’s a dream come true for me to have my book published, and not even self-published; but Little Red Helicopter was acknowledged by National Book Development Council and Singapore Press Holdings to be worthy of publication.
The launch was held on 24 October 2009 at Arts House. I invited my family, my cell leader and my Writers’ Group and they were so gracious to give their Saturday nite to attend. Altogether, there were about 90 people at the Launch, including guests of the other eight winners.
For the Writers’ Group, I hope that witnessing this launch will be an added incentive for the authors to quickly finish their books!
I am glad that my illustrator, Sheng Hua, got many good comments that nite – many people appreciated the flowy style of her illustrations and her rich colours. I am not being biased by saying that her art was by far the best among all the nine winners!
We sold quite a few copies at the launch. We will be giving a book reading at Arts House on 28th (Wednesday) and another at Kinokuniya in February. I’ve told hundreds of bedtime stories to my three children, but it’s different doing it in a busy bookstore in front of other children, and with their parents hovering nearby! I have butterflies thinking about it.
I don’t want to stop here. I hope to conduct more book readings and am sending SPH my second story which I have already written.
