Updated my book wall with my two latest books, Lion Boy and Drummer Girl and Jade’s Quest for Her Heritage.
Lion Boy and Drummer Girl was published in 2017 while Jade’s Quest was published in August this year. Thanks to a talk in Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, I was finally spurred to revisit my woefully outdated book wall!
1st day- My workshop Pinned: 3Ps of Creative Writing. Photos courtesy of Irfan Foner.
Visiting our art entry – Jade’s Quest for Her Heritage at Book Illustrators Gallery (BIG). Caught up with former writers’ group buddy Emily Lim. I’m cradling Emily Lim‘s Godwit, and she is holding Jade.
Moderated for Lu Hui Yi, Emily Pan and Hanna Alkaf. Meanwhile, my AFCC Retreat 2017 mates Tina Sim, Leila Boukarim and Barbara Moxham were holding fort! Here is Moses Sia with his Tiny Tap presentation.
Spotted! Lion Boy and Drummer Girl and Not in the Stars displayed in Central Library. Jade’s Quest was selling in the Festival Bookstore.
Was at the Huggs-Epigram Coffee Bookshop opening day on March 6. What an awesome array of local books occupying a floor to ceiling bookshelf! Glad Lion Boy and Drummer Girl is occupying a 3rd floor unit.
Robot in My Playground, also published by Epigram Books, was relegated to the top floor. But this is one time when you don’t want the penthouse, because customers can’t get at the book!
Thanksgiving. Grateful for my Writers’ Group–The Penultimate Stop. There are just 3 of us – Lianne Ong, award winning author of Stacey & the Museums series, Lucy Cheng, a closet writer with an exquisite vocabulary, and me. But just in one year, we have clocked these achievements:
- Singapore Hawker Food – written, critiqued and published (Armour).
- The Hunted Lion – sequel to “Lion Boy and Drummer Girl” (Epigram), written, critiqued and sent to publisher.
- Three picture books for a series for Special Needs – written, critiqued and with publisher now. Will update when it is published!
- A 5000-word financial drama – written, critiqued and submitted for Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2018.
- An illustrated book celebrating Spore’s Bicentennial 2019 – written and being critiqued.

Will be doing pop up reading and speed date with teachers at AFCC this year. I will be reading an excerpt from Lion Boy and Drummer Girl on Sep 6 (Thu) at 1pm.
If you’re coming to AFCC on September 6 & 7 around lunch time, let’s catch up!
Join me at Singapore Female Festival 2018 at Expo on Sep 9 (Sunday) at 3.15pm. I’ll be sharing about writing, family and just… life. Appreciate your presence and support!
