So grateful to Scholastic for making my wish come true! I wanted to present my books A Fighting Chance and Not in the Stars in Malaysian schools, so on April 25-26, Scholastic arranged for me to speak in three schools – Tenby International School, Idrissi International School and Sri KL International School.
I had a wonderful time. Some of the audiences were small and intimate, but in Sri KL International for example, the students were from Form 1 all the way to Form 6. All the children were very literate and well-spoken. They were very imaginative and creative.
Just some humourous ideas from the children themselves – The weapon of choice for Mr Bomber (the villain) is… a pencil. Yup, we had to crack our brains about how Mr Bomber was going to take over the world using… a pencil. Well, it is said that “the pen is mightier than the sword”! 🙂
Another highly-visual plot – our hero jumps from the 800m Burj Khalifa onto a moving plane, and battles to send the villain back into a magic portal which is behind a secret door approximately found on the 100th floor of the 211-storey building.
Their imaginations were still buzzing when I left. After I returned home, one of the students emailed me her story, which I will share in a later post!
