Empowerment for Work-Life Success workshop held today with powerful results. Although it was our first time meeting each other, there was heartfelt sharing of failures as well as successes. We were near tears at one point as one participant shared about her recent family crisis. It was a timely reminder to put first things first. Glad we set this afternoon apart to encourage each other to run the race of life with focus and excellence.
The award was given on October 12 at Ritz Carlton. This was the write-up about her in the awards ceremony: “Miu Ean finds that working mothers face some of the greatest struggles and challenges in achieving work-life harmony as they have dual roles, both as a mother and a career woman. She feels strongly that there is a need to equip these women with the knowledge on how to achieve work-life harmony. This is why she started a non-profit organisation Women Empowered for Work and Mothering (WEWAM) in 2011 to equip working and soon-to-be working mothers with the tools for better work-life harmony.”
The win was reported in the Chinese national daily Lianhe Zaobao the next day.
Congratulations, Ean! You fully deserve the recognition!
WEWAM conducted its inaugural FlexIgnition workshop on Saturday, 29 September 2012. This workshop is a follow-on of our quarterly WEWAM Forum. It is designed to equip mothers on meeting work-life challenges through flexibility at work.
Out of our 17 participants, 10 were first-time from the public who had heard about WEWAM from various sources. One employer called to register three of his staff after listening to a radio segment about WEWAM’s work.
Our resource panellist, Ms Christine Ting, who has returned to work on flexible work arrangement, was the guest speaker. She shared about her fruitful years as a full-time caregiver to her children and her successful return to the workplace. Her story was featured in that morning’s Chinese newspaper, Lianhe Zaobao. How timely!
FlexIgnition is an important workshop for working mothers and stay-home-mums who want to work on a part-time basis while caring for their family.

WEWAM was featured on the Saturday edition of Singapore’s Chinese daily – Lianhe Zaobao. I am so glad about the favour shown on this non-profit organisation set up to support women balance work and family.
The WEWAM Forum and Launch on 25 Feb was a great success. More than 60 women attended. Of these, there were representatives from the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO), Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). A member of the press was also present and we hope WEWAM has given story ideas about work-life for women.
More importantly, in the audience were also a few single mums and other working mothers who desire more work-life harmony. We hope that the sharing has been helpful to them. Overall, we received good feedback. One participant said that what WEWAM is doing is important and women will benefit from it. It is good incentive for us to press on!
We are glad to have this opportunity to be of relevance to mothers in Singapore and to spread a message that women need not conform to what the world defines as success but to do what is best for ourselves and our loved ones.
We hope to conduct another forum before May as a celebration of Mother’s Day. Please subscribe to this blog to stay informed about the next training session and future activities in mothering and work related empowerment.
